What brought you to the area—and what makes you stay?

I initially moved to Johnston County because of the affordability of homes compared to Raleigh. The ability to get more for my money here was a major draw! The easy connectivity to I-95, Highway 42, and other key routes, along with the high quality of life—excellent schools, shopping, and a strong sense of community—has kept me here. It’s truly a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

A favorite memory or milestone?

One of my most cherished milestones was getting married here and bringing my daughter home to this community. Raising her through Johnston County schools has been a rewarding experience. Watching her grow and building my business here has been incredibly fulfilling. I am grateful for all the opportunities we have found in Johnston County.

How would you describe Smithfield’s character?

Smithfield is a community that has so much to offer and continues to grow. From the charming downtown to the welcoming atmosphere, it truly feels like home. The ongoing revitalization of downtown Smithfield is something I’m especially excited about, and it’s just one of the many ways the town is evolving to meet the needs of its residents.

Why is Smithfield great for long-term investment?

Smithfield is a prime spot for long-term investment and homeownership due to its exceptional connectivity. With easy access to I-95, I-42, Hwy 70 and other major routes, the area offers a seamless commute to surrounding cities, making it perfect for residents and businesses. Combined with affordability, steady growth, and ongoing infrastructure investment, Smithfield offers a stable foundation for property owners looking to invest in a community with a strong future.

With homes averaging around $320K according to Redfin, and sales rising, April’s insights tie directly to real numbers!

How’s the community for entrepreneurs and small businesses?

I can attest that Johnston County is incredibly supportive of entrepreneurship and small businesses. There’s a strong sense of community, and the area offers plenty of opportunities for business growth. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand, the local resources, networks, and the welcoming environment make this an ideal place to grow a business.

April’s message to current and future residents?

Embrace everything this wonderful community has to offer! Get involved, build relationships, and make the most of all the opportunities to contribute to the growth and vibrancy of Smithfield and Johnston County. Together, we can continue making this a place where everyone can thrive.

We're so glad to have April as one of our future neighbors—and a connector who helps make Johnston County the vibrant, fun, and close-knit place we all love.
